Bocce is a game where players try to throw bigger balls as close as they can to a smaller target ball, called a jack.
If the red team's ball is touching the jack and the blue team's closest ball is a foot away, the red team scores a point.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Bocce is like a game of toss where you try to get your beanbag to land right next to a special target on the ground.
Ask your child: What's your strategy for getting your ball closest to the target?
Common mix-up: Kids might think the goal is to hit the small target ball, like in dodgeball. The real goal is precision, getting your ball to stop as close as possible to the target.
Examples
- A player might try to knock an opponent's ball away from the jack to improve their own team's position.
- Throwing your ball with a high arc to drop it softly near the jack.
- Rolling your ball along the ground to gently nudge the jack closer to your other balls.
