To compare means to look at two or more things and see what is the same about them and what is different.
Comparing 7 and 9: both are whole numbers, but 9 is greater.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Comparing is like holding two things side by side to see how they’re alike or different.
Ask your child: How are these two numbers the same? How are they different?
Common mix-up: Kids may think comparing only means finding the bigger one. It includes similarities too.
