counting back

Definition

Counting back means starting at a number and saying the numbers in decreasing order, like counting down from 10 to 1. Kids often use this to solve subtraction problems, for example, to figure out 22 - 4, they might count "21, 20, 19, 18.

counting back is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
