Komagata Maru

Definition

The Komagata Maru was a ship in 1914 that carried 376 Indian passengers, who were British citizens, to Canada. Most of these passengers were not allowed to leave the ship and were sent back to India after two months because of Canada's strict immigration laws at the time.

Komagata Maru is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
