Metamorphosis is a big change in something's form or nature, like a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. In art, it's when an artist shows one thing transforming into another to share an idea.
An artist might draw a series of pictures showing a tree's branches slowly turning into a person's arms.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Metamorphosis is like when a caterpillar builds a chrysalis and comes out as a completely different creature, a butterfly.
Ask your child: How could you draw a flower turning into a person?
