residential school system/residential schools

Definition

Residential schools were government-funded, church-run schools where Indigenous children were forced to go, aiming to strip them of their culture and language and make them adopt settler ways of life.

residential school system/residential schools is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
