Try this analogy: The topic is what a book is mostly about, just like a bowl of strawberries is mostly about strawberries.
Ask your child: What is this book all about?
Common mix-up: Kids might think the topic is just one small detail from the story. The topic is the big subject the whole text is about, like 'dinosaurs' or 'school'.
