How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Bisexuality is like enjoying more than one type of music, like pop and rock; a person's romantic feelings aren't limited to just one gender.
Ask your child: What might it feel like to be attracted to people of different genders?
Common mix-up: A common mix-up is that bisexual people are attracted to everyone. Being bisexual means a person has the capacity for attraction to more than one gender, not that they are attracted to every individual.
Examples
- A girl who is attracted to girls and to non-binary people could describe herself as bisexual.
- A person can be bisexual even if they are in a relationship with someone of one gender or are not dating anyone at all.
