A circle graph, also called a pie chart, is like a sliced pizza where each slice shows a different part of a whole amount.
If 50% of your friends chose pizza for lunch, the pizza slice on the circle graph would take up exactly half the circle.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: A circle graph is like a pizza cut into slices, where the size of each slice shows how much of something you have.
Ask your child: If this whole circle is your free time, which activity takes the biggest slice?
Common mix-up: Kids might think the slices are just labels. The key is that the size of each slice is carefully measured to show its exact percentage of the whole.
Examples
- A graph showing that 25% of your day is spent playing outside would use a slice that is one-quarter of the circle.
- A circle graph could show a family's budget, with slices for housing, food, and fun.
