- Definition
Duration is simply how long a movement or sound lasts. Think of it as the "length" of time something takes.
A quick jump has a short duration, while slowly melting to the floor is a movement with a long duration.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Duration is like the difference between a quick, short hop and a long, slow stretch.
Ask your child: Show me a quick move, then a very slow one.
Common mix-up: Kids might think duration only means 'fast.' Duration is simply how long a movement takes, whether it's very quick or held for a long time.
Examples
- Holding a balancing pose for five counts has a long duration.
- A quick, sharp turn has a short duration.
