An Indian agent was a government official who controlled many aspects of daily life for First Nations people, including their land, healthcare, and schooling. They were responsible for making sure the rules of the Indian Act were followed.
Indian agent is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
