- Definition
A "landscape" can mean a picture of outdoor scenery like mountains or fields. It can also describe a picture that is wider than it is tall.
A painting of a big field with a small farmhouse in the distance is a landscape.

Try this analogy: A landscape is like a picture of the world outside, showing everything from the ground up to the sky.
Ask your child: What would you put in a picture of the outdoors?
Common mix-up: Kids might think a landscape is only about nature, like fields and trees. A landscape can also be a picture of a busy city street or the ocean.
