numbers for notation (scales)

Definition

Sometimes, instead of using note names like C or D, we use numbers (1, 2, 3) to talk about the notes in a musical scale, especially when teaching. This can make it easier for everyone to play the same tune together, even if their instruments call the same sound by different names.

numbers for notation (scales) is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
