Definition: Resources are all the things like people, money, land, and materials that are needed to make products or provide services.

To make a drawing, the paper, crayons, and the artist's time are all resources.

How to teach this in 30 seconds

Try this analogy: Resources are like all the things you need for a craft project — the paper, the glue, and your hands to put it all together.

Ask your child: To make your drawing, what things did you use?

Common mix-up: Kids may think resources are just things you can buy. Resources also include people's work and things from nature, like water or sand.

Examples

The ingredients, the oven, and the baker are all resources for making bread.
To build a sandcastle, the sand, the bucket, and your hands are the resources.
