A "section" is a distinct part of a song, like a verse or chorus, that's longer than just a few notes. Songs are built by putting these different sections together.
The chorus of a song, which is often repeated, is a musical section.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: A musical section is like a big Lego chunk you build, which you then connect to other chunks to make your whole creation.
Ask your child: Can you hum the part of this song that repeats?
Common mix-up: Kids may think a song is just one long stream of music. Most songs are actually built from bigger chunks, like verses and a chorus, that fit together.
