Try this analogy: A value is like a rule your family thinks is really important, such as 'we always share' or 'we tell the truth.'
Ask your child: What is something our family thinks is very important to always do?
Common mix-up: Kids might think a value is about how much money something costs. A value is really a belief about what is good and important, like being kind, fair, or honest.
