Execution" is the actual doing of a movement, like when your child gets ready to throw a ball, then swings their arm and lets go. It's all about how they position their body and use their muscles to make the movement happen.
In a basketball shot, the execution is the moment the player pushes the ball up and forward with their arms and flicks their wrist.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Execution is like the big push you give on a swing, the moment you use your legs to launch yourself higher.
Ask your child: When you throw a ball, where does the power for the throw come from?
Common mix-up: Kids might think execution is the whole movement from start to finish. It's actually the specific power phase, like the kick itself, not the run-up or the leg swing after.
Examples
- When kicking a soccer ball, the execution is the instant your foot makes contact with the ball to send it flying.
- For a long jump, the execution is the explosive push-off from the ground with both feet.
