- Definition
A hop is when your child pushes off the ground with one foot and lands back on that very same foot. Think of it like a mini-jump, but only using one leg.
When playing hopscotch, you hop on one foot to land inside a single square.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: A hop is like playing hopscotch, where you push off from one foot and land right back on that same foot.
Ask your child: How many times can you hop on one foot without wobbling?
Common mix-up: Kids often confuse hopping with jumping or skipping. A true hop always starts and ends on the very same foot.
Examples
- Hopping over a small crack in the sidewalk on one foot.
