metric prefix

Definition

A metric prefix is a small word added to the beginning of a unit of measurement, like "kilo" in "kilometre," to show if the unit is bigger or smaller by a power of ten. For example, "milli" means one-thousandth, so a milligram is one-thousandth of a gram.

metric prefix is a term used in Ontario’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum.
