These are games like tennis or volleyball where players hit a ball or shuttlecock over a net, trying to make it land in a spot their opponent can't hit back.
In volleyball, a player spikes the ball over the net so the other team can't return it.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Think of net/wall activities like a game of four-square, where you try to send the ball to a spot your opponent can't return it from.
Ask your child: Where would you hit the ball to make it hard for me to return?
Common mix-up: Kids may think these games are just about hitting the ball back and forth. The real goal is to place the object where your opponent can't get to it.
Examples
- Playing tennis, where you hit the ball over the net into your opponent's court.
- Hitting a ball against a wall in a game of handball so your partner can't return it.
- Playing badminton by sending the birdie to an open spot on the other side of the net.
