A slide is a sideways movement where you step with one foot and quickly bring the other foot to meet it, like when you're playing a sport and need to move quickly to the side.
During a gym game, a student quickly steps to the side and slides their other foot over to avoid being tagged.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Sliding is like pretending you are a crab, stepping sideways across the floor.
Ask your child: How would you move sideways without crossing your feet?
Common mix-up: Kids might think sliding is just running sideways or galloping. The key is to move sideways without crossing your feet, always leading with the same foot.

- Moving sideways along a line on the gym floor while keeping your toes pointing forward.
- In a dance routine, taking a step to the side and sliding the other foot to meet it.
