Target activities are games where players try to get an object as close as possible to a specific spot, or hit that spot more times than others, often while avoiding things in the way.
In bowling, you score by hitting the pins, which are the target.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Target activities are like trying to toss a beanbag into a hole at a fair.
Ask your child: If you slid your shoe across the floor, what would you aim for?
Common mix-up: Kids may think target activities are just about hitting something. The goal can also be to get an object closer to a target than your opponent can.
Examples
- In shuffleboard, you slide a puck to land in a scoring area, which is the target.
- Archery, where you try to hit the centre of a circular target with an arrow.
