Spending is when you use money to buy things you need or want, like toys or food.
Using your allowance to buy a comic book is an example of spending.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: Spending is like using your allowance money at the store to trade it for a toy or a snack you want.
Ask your child: If you had five dollars, what would you choose to spend it on?
Common mix-up: Kids might think spending is only for things you can hold, like toys. Spending also includes paying for experiences or help, like buying a movie ticket or paying for a bus ride.
