Your child will use social-emotional learning skills, like understanding their feelings and working well with others, while learning about active living, movement, and healthy habits in physical education.

    Identification and Management of Emotions

    Your child will learn to recognize and handle their own feelings while participating in gym class and health lessons. This will help them better express themselves and understand how others are feeling.

    Stress Management and Coping

    Your child will learn to recognize what causes them stress and how to deal with those challenges, including knowing when and how to ask for help. This will help your child become more resilient, which means they'll be better at bouncing back from tough situations.

    Positive Motivation and Perseverance

    Your child will learn to develop a positive attitude and keep trying even when things are difficult in physical education, which helps them feel hopeful and optimistic. For example, they will learn to set personal goals for physical activity and understand that their effort can improve their skills.

    Your child will learn how to build friendships, understand how others feel, and talk clearly with people during gym class and health lessons. This helps them create healthy relationships, feel like they belong, and respect everyone's differences.

    Your child will learn to understand themselves better and feel more confident while participating in physical education. They will also learn to recognize their own unique qualities and feel like they belong.

    Your child will be able to think critically and creatively during physical education activities. This means they'll learn to make connections between ideas, analyze situations, evaluate choices, solve problems, and make good decisions. For example, they might think of new ways to be active at home, figure out how to make their movements smoother, or plan healthy food choices for a picnic.

Your child will regularly take part in many different physical activities and understand how to include physical activity in their daily life.

    Active Participation

    Your child will be able to join in many different physical activities like games, dance, and outdoor play, trying their best and showing good sportsmanship. They will also learn to be prepared, work well with others, and respect everyone involved.

    Active Participation

    Your child will understand what makes physical activities enjoyable for them, such as playing with friends or trying different things. They will learn this by taking part in many different activities by themselves and in small groups.

    Your child will understand how daily physical activity helps them feel good physically and mentally, like getting better sleep, having more energy, and feeling less stressed. They will also learn how it can help them get along better with others and feel more confident.

Your child will understand why it's important to be physically active and learn different ways to stay fit and healthy.

    Physical Fitness

    Your child will participate in at least 20 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day, including warm-up and cool-down exercises. This helps them stay active and healthy.

    Your child will learn how having a healthy heart and lungs (cardiorespiratory fitness) can help them do more activities for longer, need less rest, and feel better after playing.

    Your child will learn how to tell if they are working hard enough during exercise, using simple methods like the "talk test" (can they still talk while exercising?) or noticing how their breathing and heart rate change.

    Your child will learn how to stay safe and prevent injuries, like concussions, during physical activities by following rules, being aware of their surroundings, and using equipment properly. They will also learn to cooperate with others and communicate positively to help everyone stay safe.

    Your child will learn what to do if someone gets hurt during physical activity, including how to react calmly and get help from an adult. They will also understand how to respond if someone has a concussion, which is a type of brain injury.

C. Movement Competence: Skills, Concepts, and Strategies 7 expectations

Your child will be able to do different movements and understand the basic ideas behind them, using these ideas in various physical activities.

    Your child will be able to smoothly change between different body positions, like moving from one yoga pose to another, using various body parts and levels, sometimes with equipment like a bench.

    Your child will be able to jump both high and far, using either one or two feet to take off, while staying balanced.

    Locomotion

    Your child will be able to perform different ways of moving their body from one place to another, like leaping or skipping, sometimes using equipment and sometimes with others. They will also understand how to change their movements by going high or low, or moving in different directions and patterns.

    Manipulation

    Your child will be able to throw and catch different objects in many ways, using various body parts and equipment. They will practice throwing with one hand or two, kicking with either foot, and catching objects at different heights.

    Your child will learn to hold onto and move various objects, like balls or beanbags, using different parts of their body or tools, such as a racket or scoop. They will practice doing this in different ways, like running with an object or bouncing a ball with either hand.

Your child will learn different ways to move their body that are helpful for various games and activities, which will help them play better.

    Your child will understand that different games and sports have unique parts, like specific movements, rules, and ways to play fairly. They will use this knowledge when trying out various activities alone or with a few friends.

    Your child will learn to use simple strategies to do better in physical activities, like getting into a "ready position" to catch a ball or practicing balancing while waiting for their turn.

Your child will be able to understand what helps them grow into a healthy person.

    Your child will learn what makes a relationship healthy, like being kind and listening to others. They will also learn how to deal with bullying and other tough situations, and how to clearly say "yes" or "no" to things.

    Your child will learn about different things that can affect how their body grows and changes, like sleep, food, and their surroundings. They will also understand how these things influence their feelings, social skills, and how they feel about their own body.

    Your child will learn how their brain reacts when it senses danger, which can make them want to fight, run away, or freeze. They will also understand how these reactions can change their thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Your child will be able to use what they know about health and their social-emotional learning skills (like understanding feelings and getting along with others) to make good choices and take actions that help them stay healthy and well.

Your child will learn how their choices and actions affect their own health and the health of others. They will also understand how things happening in the world around them can impact everyone's health and well-being.

    Your child will learn how to make healthy food choices by trying foods from different cultures and local foods, like berries, curries, or corn.

    Your child will be able to explain how violence shown in TV shows, video games, and movies can make real violence seem less serious than it actually is, including the true impacts like injuries, long-term problems, and family stress.

    Human Development and Sexual Health

    Your child will learn that everyone is unique because of their visible traits, like skin colour or body shape, and invisible traits, like their talents or beliefs. They will also learn how to show respect for these differences in others.

    Your child will think about how outside influences, like the weather or big life changes, can cause strong or uncomfortable feelings like worry. They will also learn ways to handle these feelings.
