B. Number 16 expectations
Your child will understand what numbers are and how they are used in everyday life.

- B1.1 Whole Numbers
Your child will be able to understand and work with numbers up to 1000. This includes being able to show these numbers in different ways, break them down into smaller parts (decompose), and put smaller parts together to make a whole number (compose), and understand how these numbers are used every day.
- B1.2 Whole Numbers
Your child will be able to compare and put in order whole numbers up to 1000, understanding which numbers are larger or smaller in different everyday situations.
- B1.3 Whole Numbers
Your child will learn to estimate numbers by rounding them to the nearest ten or hundred. For example, they'll understand that 23 is closer to 20, and 789 is closer to 800.
- B1.4 Whole Numbers
Your child will be able to count up to 1000, including by groups of 50, 100, and 200, using different methods and tools.
- B1.5 Whole Numbers
Your child will understand how the position of a digit in a number (place value) changes its worth, and be able to show this using items like base ten blocks (which are blocks that represent ones, tens, and hundreds).
- B1.6 Fractions
Your child will be able to use pictures to help solve and understand problems where they share up to 20 items fairly among a group of people, even when the answer involves whole numbers, fractions (like half a cookie), or mixed numbers (like two and a half cookies).
- B1.7 Fractions
Your child will be able to solve problems where they need to share things equally, using fractions like halves, fourths, eighths, thirds, sixths, fifths, and tenths. They will also understand that different fractions can represent the same amount, for example, that two-fourths is the same as one-half.
Your child will be able to use what they know about numbers and counting to solve math problems they might come across every day.

- B2.1 Properties and Relationships
Your child will be able to use the rules of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and understand how multiplication and division are related, to solve math problems and check their answers.

Your child will be able to remember and use multiplication facts for the numbers 2, 5, and 10, and also understand how to do the related division.
- B2.3 Mental Math
Your child will be able to add and subtract numbers up to 1000 in their head, and understand how to explain the mental shortcuts they used, including estimating (making a close guess).
- B2.4 Addition and Subtraction
Your child will understand how to add and subtract whole numbers by learning about different methods or "algorithms" for solving these problems, and by seeing how these methods are like other tools and strategies they might use.

Your child will be able to solve addition and subtraction problems with whole numbers up to 1000, using different methods and tools to help them.
- B2.6 Multiplication and Division
Your child will be able to show what multiplication (like 3 groups of 4) and division (like sharing 12 items among 3 people) mean using objects, pictures, or by arranging things in rows and columns, which are called arrays.
- B2.7 Multiplication and Division
Your child will be able to solve math problems using multiplication and division, even when the problems involve sharing things into halves, quarters, or thirds. They will use tools and drawings to help them figure out the answers.
- B2.8 Multiplication and Division
Your child will learn that the top number of a fraction (the numerator) tells you how many pieces of the fraction you have. They will understand this by adding up smaller fractions with the same bottom number (denominator) and by using pictures and numbers.

Your child will be able to use ratios like 1 to 2 (meaning for every 1 of something, there are 2 of another) to make numbers bigger or solve math problems.

Your child will be able to create and change patterns that repeat, using things like shapes, numbers, or tables of values (which are charts that show how numbers are related).

Your child will be able to figure out the rules for patterns and use them to continue the pattern, guess what comes next, and find missing parts in patterns that repeat.

Your child will be able to make and explain different patterns using whole numbers up to 1000, showing how these numbers are connected.
Your child will be able to understand how letters (variables) can stand for numbers, how to create and solve simple math problems (expressions and equalities), and how to show when one amount is greater or smaller than another (inequalities). They will use these skills in different situations.

Your child will be able to read and change existing computer code, including code that involves things happening in order, at the same time, or over and over. They will also be able to explain how these changes affect what the code does.
Your child will be able to use math to understand and solve problems they might encounter in real life. This process, called mathematical modeling, involves using math to make predictions and gain insights into different situations.

Your child will be able to sort information about people or things using two or three characteristics, and show this information in tables or diagrams like Venn, Carroll, and tree diagrams.
- D1.2 Data Collection and Organization
Your child will be able to gather information by watching things, doing experiments, or asking people questions, focusing on both descriptive information (qualitative data) and number-based information (quantitative data). They will then organize this information into tables that show how often something happens (frequency tables).
- D1.3 Data Visualization
Your child will be able to show information using pictographs (graphs that use pictures) and bar graphs. They will understand how to use one picture or symbol to represent multiple items (many-to-one correspondence), and make sure their graphs have titles, labels, and correct scales.

Your child will be able to tell the difference between shapes like cubes (like dice), prisms (like a tissue box), pyramids, cylinders (like a can), and cones (like an ice cream cone). They will do this by looking at their flat sides, straight lines, corners, and how the lines meet.

Your child will be able to build and take apart different structures, and then identify the flat shapes (like squares or circles) and solid objects (like cubes or spheres) that make up these structures.

Your child will be able to tell if two 3D objects are "congruent" (meaning they are the exact same size and shape) by comparing their lengths, angles, and faces.

Your child will be able to measure and compare the perimeter (the distance around the outside edge) of different shapes, and also create shapes that have a specific perimeter.

Your child will understand how different metric units of length, like millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres, relate to each other. They will also be able to use common objects or distances (benchmarks) to help them estimate lengths.
- E2.3 Length, Mass, and Capacity
Your child will be able to use everyday objects like cups or spoons (non-standard units) to guess, measure, and compare how much something can hold. They will also understand how overfilling, underfilling, or leaving gaps when measuring can make their measurements less accurate.

Your child will be able to compare how heavy different things are, make good guesses about their weight, and measure them using a pan balance and everyday items like blocks or paper clips.
- E2.5 Length, Mass, and Capacity
Your child will learn that when they measure something, like the length of a table, they can use different tools (like a ruler or a measuring tape). Even though the number they get might be different depending on the tool, the actual length of the table doesn't change.
- E2.6 Time
Your child will be able to tell time using both analog clocks (the ones with hands) and digital clocks (the ones with numbers), down to the hour, minute, and second.
- E2.7 Area
Your child will be able to compare the sizes of different flat shapes by matching them up, covering them, or breaking them apart and putting them back together. They will also understand that different shapes can take up the same amount of space.
- E2.8 Area
Your child will be able to measure the area of different shapes using non-standard units (like counting how many squares fit inside) and understand how leaving gaps or overlapping these units can make their measurement inaccurate.
- E2.9 Area
Your child will be able to estimate and measure how much flat space different shapes take up, using square centimeters and square meters as units of measurement. This includes shapes with straight or curved edges.
F. Financial Literacy 1 expectation
Your child will be able to understand the value of Canadian money and how to use it.
