A rotation is when you turn a shape around a fixed point, like spinning a wheel. The shape itself doesn't change size or form, it just moves to a new position.
Turning the lid on a jar to open it is a rotation around the center of the lid.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: A rotation is like the hands of a clock moving around the center point, turning without changing their shape or size.
Ask your child: How can you turn this shape to face a new direction?
Common mix-up: Kids often confuse a turn (rotation) with a slide or a flip. A rotation must pivot around a fixed point, like a spinning wheel, not just move to a new spot.
