A transformation is simply moving or changing a shape in some way, like sliding it, flipping it, turning it, or making it bigger or smaller.
Sliding a book across the table is a transformation called a translation.
How to teach this in 30 seconds
Try this analogy: A transformation is like moving a toy around — you can slide it, turn it, or flip it over.
Ask your child: Can you slide, flip, and turn this toy?
Common mix-up: Kids may think a transformation changes the shape, like from a square to a circle. A transformation just changes the position or orientation of the same shape.
